Fingal Girls Cricket for Life Road Show June 2011
The Leinster Cricket Union in conjunction with Fingal County Council’s Sports Office along with the support of the Irish Sports Council’s ‘Women in Sport’ initiative ran a five-day ‘Cricket for Life Roadshow’ for girls in Fingal. The Roadshow visited local clubs in Fingal throughout June, catering for beginners and those with playing experience aged 7-13 yrs. The Roadshow emphasised participation through fun games and cricket activities.
South Dublin County Council challenge match.
On one of the few beautifully sunny days of the summer so far, Adamstown Educate Together National School played their first ever hardball cricket match. One of the newest cricket grounds in the country, Adamstown CC’s beautiful Corkagh Park venue in Clondalkin, Southwest Dublin played host to Adamstown ETNS’s challenge match vs Archbishop Ryan National School, last year’s Leprechaun Cup semi-finalists. The match was made possible thanks to South Dublin County Council’s support of the Leinster Cricket Union’s development work in the region.
Fingal Cricket Blitz
Six wonderful days of cricket blitz’s were held for pupils in both 4th & 5th classes during the month of May. The events were full of fun and enjoyment with children being competitive and learning more about the game. And let’s not forget that we had great weather over the two weeks also! Overall 23 schools attended the blitz’s with over 600 boys & girls gaining valuable playing experience. The many teachers who accompanied the teams were most impressed with the ‘Kwik Cricket’ paying format and may have already expressed interest in setting up games themselves involving local schools. Always a good sign for the further development of the game.
Leprechaun Cup Final 2011
Scenes of joy were very evident amongst the players and the large crowd present when Jamie Grassi hit the wining boundary for Balrothery to win their third Leprechaun Cup victory in as many years. The day had started well for Delgany who were 60-1 from 10 overs however tight bowling from Mikey Sludds restricted their progress in the middle overs. Ciaran Soden scored a valuable 25* batting down the order to gain Delgany a respectable total of 116. Despite losing Mikey Sludds early to a catch by wicketkeeper Stuart Jackson both Grassi and Fionn Hand shared an excellent 2nd wicket partnership to see Balrothery home for a famous victory.
