More romance in this year's 2013 Senior 2 Cup. In the not too distant past Swagelok Taverners entered the Minor Cup. Although success eluded them that year, name changes and silverware followed. Now Dundrum take their place for the first time in the Senior 2 Cup, and have been "rewarded" with a tie against Merrion 2, a team who always rank amongst the favourites in the second tier cup competition.
This match ranks Division 2 (Merrion) against Division 4 (Dundrum), although Dundrum should not be disheartened - Phoenix 2 faced the same disparity last year and chased 300 to dump Leinster 2 from the competition.
YMCA 2 will be arriving in Heuston station early on the morning of May 26th, as they have been drawn away to Cork County. The Munstermen were somewhat unlucky to be relegated in 2012, and will be strongly fancied for the league/cup double this year.
The Hills host Leinster in a clash of two sides who have tasted Division 2 cricket, and in another titanic affair, Railway Union host Laois. The remaing four matches all have Division 3 teams being pitted against those from Division 4.
Dublin play Westmeath in Castle Avenue (Clontarf 2 vs Mullingar 1), Fingal play Dublin 8, as Phoenix 2 travel to North County 2, Kildare takes on Dublin (North Kildare 1 versus Malahide 2) with the final match between Pembroke 2 and Civil Service 1.
As tradition dictates, the final will be held at the ground of the 2012 Senior Cup hosts, so YMCA will get the opportunity to put on another great day on the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday weekend.
The draw for the second round and semi finals will be live on NEAR 90.3fm
