How the league was won - There was only ever one team in the hunt for the title. Wicklow County 2 lost to Merrion 8 on June 7, but that was their only loss from their first 11 completed matches. Those who in pursuit didn't really have a chance. Mullingar 3 ended up with the runners-up spot, their title hunt being spoiled by losing at least a game every month. Leinster 7 were sporadic. Up and down for most of the early season, they won five of their last six, but giving a walkover to Mullingar (when Leinster 6 were in Longford) was the nail in the coffin. Greystones 3 had a winless streak from May 3 to June 29, a stretch which meant they never had a hope. Merrion 8 had a strong start to the season, winning five matches on the bounce in June and July, but losses to Clontarf and Mullingar in August ended any hopes
How dreams turned to nightmares - The bottom of Division 14 is made a more relaxing environment, as there is no relagation (although a rumoured Division 15 in 2015 may mean much re-organisation). However, the bottom half of Division 14 is somewhere that teams would prefer not to be. Clontarf 6 didn't win on the pitch until June 29th and Civil Service 4 lost their first six games. Balbriggan 3 were mixed on the field (a brace of wins over Civil Service and one over Leinster) and shambolic off it with scorecards slow to come in (in fact the last match against Wicklow has completely disappeared). Phoenix 6 ended up finishing bottom, thanks to a horrible run at the end of the season, losing their last seven matches.
Heroes with the willow -Sinto John (Greystones) was the top run scorer, and was one of three debutants in Leinster cricket who passed 300 runs in Division 14. Adam Gilbride (Clontarf) became the top run scorer in Division 14, with his 387 runs this year making a 2011-2014 total of 839 runs at 24.68
Hell for leather - Scott Doecke of Greystones completed a double for the Wicklow Club, being the top wicket taker in the Division with 23 wickets at 11.22. Thomas Mount of Mullingar extended his lead as the Division 14 leading wicket taker. His 19 wickets in 2014 saw his total tally in Division 14 rise to 64 at 110.09 since 2011
Days to remember - Merrion 8 were in a little bit of trouble in the hallowed surroundings of Bird Avenue in May. Against Balbriggan 3, they were 46-2 when Danish Iqbal (see below) came to the crease to join Somasekhar Rapolu. By the time Rapolu was dismissed, the pair had added 219 with both men getting hundreds. It was the 3rd highest 3rd wicket partnership in Open Competitions this year, the only 200+ partnership for Merrion this year, and the highest partnership in Bird Avenue. In fact therre was only one other 100+ partnership in Bird Avenue all season
Stat you may have missed - Danish Iqbal took three wickets in an innings more times than anyone else in Division 14, with four such performances. He followed it up with 257 runs at 42.83 - including that century against Balbriggan 3
NB - Many thanks to Wicklow County who submitted the missing Balbriggan 3 vs Wicklow County 2 match on October 6th. Averages are updated to include that game
