Busy weekend past for the Leprechauns Cricket Club. On Friday they took on a touring side from Australia, the Victorian Over 60s, in Castle Avenue. The Leps batted first and made a good score thanks to contributions from Derek Dockrell [40*], Graham Chisholm [39] and Chris Harte [33]. The visitors made the runs with two overs to spare with Paul Delany taking two wickets and Marty Block, one. A very pleasant evening was had before the visitors departed to continue their tour with games at Mount Juliet, Coleraine and Donaghadee.
On Sunday the Leprechauns decamped to Mooneys of the Doon for a 35 over match with Athlone. Again the Leps batted first and scored 226 [A Delany 69, I Smillie 42 and D Symmonds 38]. Athlone, Charlie Cooper et al, were restricted to 156 thanks to a five wicket haul from Ed Lindsey. The setting and hospitality at the Doon is fantastic and anyone thinking of taking a short trip down the motorway for a game of cricket should contact the club. Sunday 24th August is still available.
Next Leprechaun’s games are:
- Old Wimbledonians @ Whitechurch 22nd July
- White City @ Mount Juliet 27th July
- Oakhill 11th Aug
