Adamstown Cricket Club’s annual Blitz tournament
Adamstown cricket club’s annual Blitz cricket tournament got off to an exuberant start last Saturday at Corkagh Park with six teams around Dublin taking part in this year’s competition. The Blitz tournament is a rapid fire quick of form cricket with 5 overs per innings per side and each team playing twice in the group stage.
With the early morning sun shining, the cricket ball was smashed all around the park with a total 56 boundaries including 28 sixes and 26 fours scored throughout the day. By the end of group stage competition a total of 589 runs scored from 54 overs, with an average of 10.7 runs per over and wickets tumbled 36 times.
Help Together Charity CC topped Group A and local boys Adamstown Ninjas who scored a maximum of 91 runs in their opening game topped Group B. They along Beaumont ICC and Tyrrelstown Torpedo progress to the semi-final stage. Other two contenders Sandyford Challengers and Garda CC were knocked out after giving a tough competition.
The participating teams and supporters were treated to some delightful lunch, loads of snacks, tea and live Dhol (Indian) music. Rain came down heavily at 3.30pm preventing any further play and the semi-final and final games and presentation ceremony to be presided by South Dublin Mayor were rescheduled to next weekend.
