10. List three things that were significant and unusual about a Senior League match between YMCA and CYM in September 1992.
A. (i) This was the last year of a single Senior League. Based on the added finishing positions in the 1991 1992 seasons clubs would be placed in the new Sections A or B. All matches had to be played. Although YMCA and CYM had both done enough to earn places in Division A, the result of the match between them would determine which of three clubs (Pembroke, The Hills and Old Belvedere) qualified for the final position in Section A. Consequently the match had to be played.
(ii) Since neither club’s ground was available, having gone to winter sports, the game was played in Merrion.
(ii) Up to then YMCA played competitive matches only on Saturdays or midweek. This game was played on a Sunday.
