August: OC League Round Up D13 - D16
Dundrum III are in a strong position in D13, especially after the surprise loss of second placed Swords II to Laois III yesterday. This is Laois’s first win of the season. Even before this match Dundrum had a comfortable margin at the top of the league and the title really looks their’s to lose at the moment. Until yesterday D13 was unique in having three teams without a win at the bottom of the table. Now it has only two, Railway Union VI and North Kildare III. The single win by Laois will propel them above the other two teams but realistically all three will have to battle it out to avoid relegation. For whatever reason D13 seems to be a Division that has suffered more than most from postponements and at this point less then 50% of matches for the season have been played. A lot of activity expected over the remaining 6/7 weeks.
Leinster VII have been dominant in D14 from the start of the year. Bagenalstown II are chasing hard [and following their victory over third placed Wicklow II yesterday have six wins to match Leinster] and the two teams should secure promotion. Leinster have already beaten Bagenalstown this season, with the second fixture rained off. At the other end of the table matters would seem to be pretty settled as well with Sandyford III and Mullingar III on their own, way behind the third last team.
D15 is another league with a dominant team. Civil Service IV have eight wins out of nine matches and close to a 30 percentage point lead over second placed Phoenix VI. It is difficult to see anyone catching them at this point. Four teams are in with a shout for second place and promotion - Phoenix, Balbriggan III, Greystones III and Clontarf VI. Merrion VIII and Dundalk II are propping up the table but both have wins yet to be included in the table that will improve their positions and give them a chance of catching Rush in sixth place. It is difficult to predict the outcome at the bottom of the table as some teams have a lot of games still to play.
And finally D16 where Carlow have the strongest position of any team across all of the divisions with seven wins and no losses [and another walkover to be recorded yesterday over Civil Service V]. Ashbourne, Adamstown V and North Kildare IV are all in with a chance of second spot and promotion. As there is no relegation from the league, the bottom teams are only playing for pride and bragging rights [and hopefully enjoyment]. Bagenalstown III have lost all ten matches played they have played this season but it is worth noting that they have completed all ten scheduled fixtures.
