A batting partnership of over 250 earlier in the season prompted a search in the records to discover what other large partnerships had taken place down the year.
The highest recorded partnership for any grade of cricket is the 352* that Tariq Islam [239*] and Shiva Katta [88*] put together for Laois 3 v Bagenalstown 2 in 2011 at Togher. It should be noted in this context that official records for all Open Competitions only go back to 2011 but we have the statistics for Senior Cricket from 1919. Given the higher number of runs scored in Senior cricket and how aggregate scores have risen overall in recent years there is a good chance that this is the highest partnership ever.
The 16 recorded partnerships of 250 or more at any level of Open Competitions are set out in the following table.
Records are a little more uncertain when we come to look at partnerships for each wicket. The late Derek Scott, who compiled the statistics for the Senior Competitions, only recorded the records for the first six wickets. Subject to the production of contrary evidence the following are the highest scores by wicket.
If anyone can knows of a higher partnership that we have missed we will of course amend the records. Send details to cricketleinster@gmail.com and we will check it out.
