The article published on Monday referred to players who were current players at the end of 2012. However, there was one that got away. Conor Hoey, more universally known as Beany, had 601 wickets in a career that spanned the period from 1985 to 2001. However, in an example of the saying “Never say Never” he came back in 2011 to play for Trinity (then in Division 3 but who he assisted to win promotion back up to Division 2) and also played one match for Terenure. In 2012 he played for Trinity in Division 2. Therefore, his bowling figures should have appeared under current figures section of those with over 200 wickets and also in career figures for those with over 500 wickets. The correct career figures are:
Debut Clubs M Wkts Runs Avge. 5W
1985 Ter; OB 269 621 10,747 17.30 30
DU
Interesting that after Alan Lewis there are now 3 current players, whose careers go back to the 1980’s and all of whom have at one stage or another represented Terenure.
Apologies for my oversight and good to see that Beany has already started another season in 2013.
