Bedford edge past South Dublin
Bedford narrowly overcame the South Dublin XI by 9 runs at a sweltering Corkagh Park earlier today. Nearly 400 runs were scored in a competitive and close fought encounter.
Bedford won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first on the recently relaid surface. With the warm sunshine and fast outfiled it was an easy decision. Alex Evans continued his good form on this tour with a well made 50. Hugh Beard chipped in with a breezy 39. Bedford scored 198 for 7 in their alloted 35 overs. Hamza Naeem was best for South Dublin taking 4 for 19 with his tricky leg breaks. The fielding for South Dublin was of a high standard with captain Diarmaid Tucker, Eoin Barron and Vaibhav Katri all holding smart catches.
The South Dublin response didnt get off to a great start when Tucker and Barron both fell early. However Sanil Gupta and Baz Nadeen steadied the ship. Nadeem scoring 33 which included a few lusty blows. Gupta was eventually dismissed for a fluent 59. Ben Crowley led a late order charge with a well made 48 no, but South Dublin finished 9 runs short on 186 for 9. Beard claimed 4 wickets for Bedford which capped off a great all round performance for himself.
Thanks go towards The Gathering 2013, South Dublin County Council, South Dublin tourism and Adamstown CC for facilitating the hosting of the match. The next Representive fixtures which come to Corkagh Park will be in August when it plays host to the annual visit of Eyri District boys and girls teams to play their Leinster counterparts. On that occasion the recently opened second oval will be used to facilitate the double header.
