The sun was shining and a beautiful Indian summer's day was on offer when Adamstown Cricket Club hosted its annual Blitz tournament on 25th September as this year's tournament saw competition across youth U-13 and open competition sections.
Sponsored by Eurasia Supermarket the Blitz tournament consists of rapid fire 5 over matches with a total of 11 youth and 10 adult matches played during the day and the winners decided in the finals.
On the youth side, it was Malahide3 which topped the league stage and played 2nd placed Malahide2. In the finals Malahide2 successfully defended a target of 82 lifting the youth ACC Blitz cup. On the Adults side, it was Adamstown's 'Buffalo Wings' who faced regular patron 'Help Together' cricket club in the finals.
Buffalo Wings' Hamza Mann who also got the player of the tournament award played beautifully to set a target of 83 from 5 overs. In reply Help Together started briskly with its openers, but a decisive 4th over from Asher Abbasi contained the flow and sealed the victory for Buffalo Wings.
There was more fun offer with the teams losing in the first round playing for the Blitz Plate where team SIE beat the newly established Clondalkin Cricket Club. With the longest hit competition, refreshment, food and music on offer Corkagh Park looked a festive occasion during the day.
Presiding over the presentation ceremony Minister Ann Phelan TD, Minister of state for sport, remarked the great progress made by Adamstown Cricket Club in its short existence and its positive role in integrating the local community. She congratulated the winner and promised to support Adamstown's cause for building better training facility in Corkagh Park.
