The first overseas tour for the Lightning Bolts got underway in Copenhagen today as Stephen Doheny and Lorcan Tucker hit half-centuries against the Danish national team.
Unfortunately, after they gave the Bolts a great start and Fiachra Tucker (37) and Rory Anders (31) brought the Bolts to 267 all out, the visitors weren’t given the chance to defend their total as some ‘Irish’ weather intervened and called play off for the day.
Doheny (74 off 89 balls; 7x4,2x6) and Tucker (59 off 77 balls; 7x4) added 135 in 151 deliveries for the 3rd wicket after Tector and Grassi had fallen earlier to Henriksen (3-35).
Their partnership left the Bolts in a strong partnership with 20-overs remaining, however Damgaard (3-45) and four wickets for 10 runs brought the Danes back into the match leaving the Bolts 195/8 with more than 8 overs remaining.
In stepped Fiachra and Anders to drag the Bolts to 267 all out with three balls remaining in the innings. The rain did intervene during the lunch break, but all is not lost for this match.
An early start on Saturday (10am) will see Denmark chase a Duckworth-Lewis calculated 20-over target before a 45-over second match between the sides rather than 50-over.
This will two fixtures and two results to be completed, weather permitting, as was the purpose of this trip.
A long day in store tomorrow for the young Bolts, but they’ll sleep well after a decent batting performance, led by Doheny and Lorcan Tucker’s 50’s.
