With next year's 150th anniversary in mind, the Phoenix Park club have taken the decision to begin a youth cricket programme as part of the club's long term development policy
This was initially facilitated by the opening of relations with Drimnagh Castle CBS, alma mater of the club's secretary and some current senior players.
After playing some school matches, coached and mentored by Service players, the Drimnagh lads were invited down to club training held by club members with coaching experience.
Added to this, sons and daughters of senior players have begun to take part, as well a group of players from CUS and formerly of Phoenix CC who have crossed the Dog Pond. The continued support and assistance of all their parents have made for social and enjoyable training evenings.
Furthermore, the acquisition of Clontarf and former Bangladesh under-17 player Roni Hoque as coach, the future looks secure as next year's significant anniversary comes around.
Equipment provided by RSA in recignition of the first XI's campaign in the National Cup was greatly appreciated and put to good use by the young cricketers and their mentors alike.
Led by Joel Jacob, CSCC Youths played their first twenty-over match on 1 September after several frustrating rain postponements put paid to games against Terenure, The Hills and Clontarf.
Facing a strong and far more experienced Adamstown selection, Service found it tough going at times but put on a respectable display in what, for many of the players, was their first ever full game. Man of the match went to Adamstown's Hanan Mann, who chipped in with a wonderful display of 63 not out with the bat, and figures of 3-10 in two overs. Pick of the Service players was Kevin K George, who scored 10 with the bat and went for just 8 runs off his bowling.
Unfazed by the result, the team looks forward to indoor sessions over the winter as they continue on their cricketing journey with one of Leinster's oldest clubs.
