Based in Veldonstown, just outside of Kentstown, County Meath, Knockharley Cricket Club is a welcoming and family orientated club that competes at all levels in Cricket Leinster competitions.
Founded in 1982, the club has enjoyed many successes over the years with the intention to continue to build on these achievements as well as to grow and spread interest in the sport. One area that the club are keen to build on is our women’s section.
Knockharley CC women’s captain Heather Whelan has been hard at work in the off-season, working alongside Cricket Leinster and Meath Sports Partnership to bring CricHIIT to Meath (sessions are Wednesday evenings from 7-8pm in Loreto Navan). The hybrid cricket and fitness programme is designed to introduce cricket to adult, female beginners with some fitness mixed in. One of the participants said, “I’m not sporty, but I really enjoy this. I don’t know if I’ll be good at cricket in a match but I want to give it a try!”
There are two more weeks of indoor CricHIIT (April 6th and 13th) before training begins outdoors at the club grounds. Knockharley are entering a team in the Cricket Leinster Division 4 League for the first time in 2022 and are looking for new, female members of any age to come and try the game. No experience is necessary, with sessions and games focused on inclusion and fun.
Training is on Wednesday evenings and all are welcome to come down and give it a try on any Wednesday in April and May
If you would like to know more about how to get involved, please contact Cricket Leinster Women and Girls Development Officer Isobel Joyce (isobel.joyce@cricketleinster.ie) or Knockharley women’s captain Heather Whelan (haychwhelan@hotmail.com).
