Cricket Leinster is pleased to offer some top-level coaching and tips to girls between the ages of 13 and 21 at two masterclasses taking place over the mid-term break from two of the province’s top fast bowlers.
Phoenix’s Dempsey has broken into the Ireland team in 2021 with her pace bowling, and Jack Carty from Merrion won the Samuels Cup for 2021 – the award for best all-rounder.
The coaches, along with Women & Girls’ Development Officer Isobel Joyce, will aim to give players some extra work and training ahead of the Find a Fast Bowler for Girls competition taking place later in the week.
That competition is only open to girls not in the national programmes, but the masterclasses are open to any player within the age limits that plays their cricket in Leinster.
The winner of the Find a Fast Bowler competition will be the player that shows the best promise to bowl pace – a skill that is at a premium at every level of the game. The winner will also receive a sports voucher for €150. The competition takes place in Merrion Cricket Club on Friday 29th October from 2pm-4pm.
The first masterclass is on Tuesday 26th October in Merrion Cricket Club from 3.45pm-5pm.
