Kilkenny has traditionally been a popular cricketing community and up to 1896 there were 50 teams playing in the county. The modern-day Kilkenny Cricket Club was re-established in 2018 and plays its home games at Castle Blunden on the outskirts of the city. The club has been leading a revival of the game in the county and now has 108 registered players (including 59 youths).
