Our second Fingal Cricket4All Blitz took place on Sunday last, 19th November. This year’s event was run as part of Fingal Inclusion Week. The event was delivered as part of the broader Cricket4All programme which has been implemented across Fingal over the past 18 months.
This year's event saw children with disabilities, additional needs as well as older adults take part in table-cricket matches as well as adapted cricket activities and games. The Indoor Hall at North County Cricket Club was the venue for this year's event, which included participants from all over the Fingal Local Authority area including Balbriggan, Rush, Malahide, Swords, Tyrrelstown and surrounding areas.
Killian Molloy is the CL Co-Ordinator of the Fingal Cricket4All programme and commented on the success of the event:
"It was wonderful to see people of different ages and abilities come and play cricket together. It was also fantastic to see the various groups of people interacting with each other and great to see relationships & connections being made on the back of the event. It is remarkable the positive impact which sporting events of this nature can have in bringing people together.”
Participants also got a chance to meet members of the Ireland Under 19 squad who had been training before Sunday's event. This was one of the highlights of the day, seeing some of the country's young elite athletes spending time meeting with and chatting to the parents and children, many of whom are involved in local clubs.
Cricket Leinster & Fingal County Council are already in discussion about the next phase of this important strategic programme as part of our wider focus on social inclusion.
