Yesterday afternoon saw the first round of fixtures take place in the North County, and with Dublin Thunders receiving a walkover from KPMG 2, this meant there were just three fixtures to take place.
In the opening fixture of the CL Indoor Tournament, Merrion faced off against KPMG. Having been asked to field first, Merrion put in an excellent performance, taking constant wickets throughout their 12 overs and restricting KPMG to a negative score, with Sam Casey, Chetan Suttraway, and Vikas Dhiman taking a handful of wickets each. A mature batting display saw Merrion close out their 12 overs, losing just one wicket and a comfortable victory by over 100 runs.
In our second fixture, Cabra batted first v Indigo Spartans. Cabra managed to keep their scoring rate high throughout their innings, but the constant flow of wickets restricted them to 14 runs, with good bowling performances from Rahul Mahajan and Faizan Afridi. Indigo Spartans used their experience with the bat, only losing a handful of wickets, and finished out their innings on 73 to pick up their first win of the tournament.
The final fixture of the day saw Dundalk take on S&S Dublin. Dundalk bowled first and got off to a decent start. Mastercard fought back strongly in their 12 overs and finished on 83. Dundalk’s reply always seemed comfortable, as a constant flow of extras saw them not required to take too many risks with the bat. They coasted to 104 to come out on top by 21 runs.
