The season is drawing to a close and the cup finals are all but done. Last night saw Clontarf gain some measure of revenge over The Hills for the loss in the RSA Irish Senior Cup when they came out on top in the RSA [Alan Murray] T20 Final. The only OC final left is the Junior Cup, which takes place next Sunday between Rush III and Castleknock II in Malahide.
In Sydney Parade last night a good crowd saw the two top cup performers in recent years battling it out once again. Clontarf won the toss and decided to bat. A total of 142/6 in their twenty overs looked a little light but in indifferent light and overcast conditions it was difficult to determine what was a competitive score. Andrew Poynter proved once again what an important player he is, especially in the shorter forms of the game, with 60 runs off 32 balls.
As it turned out the top order for The Hills never really got going. A short burst of activity from Max Sorensen and Nazeer Shoukat saw four balls in quick succession fly over the ropes but this was soon ended when Paul Ryan [3/10] came on and bowled both batsmen. His bowling partnership with Conor D’Arcy [3/9] never let The Hills back into the match and Clontarf ran out comfortable 47 run winners.
