Cricket Leinster is delighted to announce that David Cosgrave of Pembroke CC is the winner of the Bookman Cup (leading batsman) in the Tillain Cup for 2020.
Cosgrave, with his 218 runs at an average of 31.14, was one of three batsmen to pass the 200 run qualifying threshold in this curtailed season, with Knockharley duo of Tayyab Rashid (249 at 30.13) and Ross Shivmangal (219 at 24.33) having been just marginally edged out in the averages by the Pembroke opener.
Highlight of the season for Cosgrave was probably his run-a-ball 59 not out against Phoenix on the middle weekend of the season, helping his side chase down a potentially tricky target of 132 in just 18 overs in the Phoenix Park. He also made an important 65 away against Terenure, which had set Pembroke up for victory in the second round of fixtures.
His runs in this tricky opening period, in which Pembroke played 4 away games on the bounce, no doubt helped set his team up into a great position to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition, where they were beaten by eventual winners Merrion 2.
Congratulations from all at Cricket Leinster to David on winning the Bookman Cup for 2020!
