Amidst the gloomy COVID sports news, a ray of sunshine, with news The Hills CC have been leant a helping hand by Fingal County Council & Cricket Leinster to keep junior cricket coaching programmes running throughout November.
With the COVID restrictions still allowing for small group work, the club has called on Fingal Cricket Development Manager Brian O’Rourke and assistant Killian Molloy to visit the club weekly and help them continue with the coaching of both their u12 & u16 squads. Thankfully, with local secondary school, Skerries Community College finishing on Friday’s at 1pm, this offers students time to visit The Hills each week, early afternoon, to get their extra training sessions in.
Of course, O’Rourke is no stranger to The Hills Cricket Club having hosted a six-week series of club coaching visits during the summer and was delighted to help the club for what they continue to do for the game in the area.
Luke Clinton, youth co-ordinator at the Hills CC commented “We are grateful to Brian for being true to his commitment and helping us keep our u12 & u16 age-groups playing the game they love. Our group of U12s faces lit up when told the cricket season was continuing into the Autumn (many from this group had also attended Cricket Leinster’s recent ‘School of Excellence’ held at Balbriggan CC) and this is the inspiration we need as a club to keep fighting through this pandemic. We can see the future is bright with such passionate, young players visiting the club each week to get further training opportunities in".
Marion Brown, principal sports officer at Fingal County Council added the council’s support for the Hills CC coaching programme: “The council is truly delighted to see even more young cricketers accessing opportunities and it is lovely Brian and assistant Killian Molloy can support The Hills CC, like they did with the newly launched School of Excellence held last month at Balbriggan CC. Only by working together, we will all come out of this pandemic stronger, and as a council, we could not be prouder of the cricket development teams efforts to be leaders in this message”.
