St. Thomas' SNS Jobstown, Tallaght are currently involved in their Active Schools Week. The pupils, teachers and classroom assistants have been busy taking part in a range of activities from hip hop dancing to volleyball.
As part of the week’s activities the SDCC /LCU Cricket Development Team visited the school for two days earlier in the week to introduce cricket to all of the schools 450 pupils. Each child was given an opportunity to play the sport that is becoming so popular around the country, since Ireland's famous defeat of England at the Cricket World Cup 12 months ago.
The young pupils gave all aspects of cricket a go, including batting, bowling, fielding and wicket keeping. The cricket matches took place on the schools state of the art artificial pitch which remained playable throughout despite the inclement weather.
Mr Aidan Knight the organiser of the Active Schools Week said, ' Our kids have been delighted with the cricket. At first they were sceptical and weren't at all convinced they'd enjoy it, but Kenny and his team have made it so much fun with an all-action approach where everyone is active and very engaged. Nobody even noticed the rain!"
