Cricket Leinster is pleased to announce that we have agreed terms with Peter Savill to take over the iconic cricket facility at Oak Hill on a long-term lease. As part of this agreement, CL is also purchasing all the on-site existing machinery & equipment.
As anyone who has ever visited or played at Oak Hill will attest, it is a high-quality cricket facility which regularly hosts top-level cricket each season.
As part of the agreement, Cricket Leinster will assume full oversight and control of the facility which will be used to host youth festivals, underage & adult representative cricket in addition to continuing its role as an important host venue for some CI fixtures on an annual basis. The first CL games to be hosted at Oak Hill include Girls Underage fixtures (U13, 15 & 17) and two Leinster Lightning IP fixtures against Munster Reds in mid-May.
CL also has plans to complete upgrade works (both grounds & machinery), some of which will commence in autumn 2024.
GM By Choice has been maintaining the pitches & outfield at Oak Hill over recent years and will be retained by CL in this capacity and to oversee the upgrade works.
The ongoing maintenance and development of Oak Hill is an important strategic project for CL at a time when grounds (especially with high quality turf pitches) are increasingly under pressure from a capacity standpoint.
We expect to conclude the contractual agreement over the coming weeks and thank Peter Savill for his vision in developing the cricket facility at Oak Hill and equally for his support to Cricket Leinster in taking on this expansive project. Thanks also to Cricket Ireland for some short-term loan financing to assist in completing the project.
