It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of Des Cashell. A long time member of Malahide Cricket Club, Des served for many years on LCU committees and was President of the Union in 1976 / 1977 and went on to become President of the Irish Cricket Union in 1981.
On the cricket field Des played senior cricket 38 times for Malahide between 1953 and 1967 as well as playing a number of seasons in Cork. Des was actively involved with cricket throughout his life and attended the Clontarf CC dinner less than two weeks ago.
The Leinster Cricket Union would like to extend its sympathies to his wife Gemma and to his club Malahide. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
