It is with great sadness that we have learned this morning of the death of Rita Kenny who passed away during the night at the Nursing home in Enniskerry where she has lived in recent years. May she rest in peace.
Rita, who was in her 90s, was the wife of Jim Kenny Senior and mother of Pat, Jim, Frank and Mary Kenny, all of whom played cricket for LCC with distinction.
A life-long member, Rita gave unstinting service to LCC for decades when cooking and serving up lunches and teas at weekends, midweek and representative fixtures in the club with a wonderful group of ladies including the late Kay Duff, Joy Cunningham, Kay McDonnell, Ann O’Carroll, Yvonne and Collette Colleran, and others who were pillars of the club and hugely responsible for its wonderful hospitality reputation.
She took a particular interest in the revival of ladies cricket and, as President of the Irish Ladies Cricket union, led an International touring party to Australia where two of her children, Pat and Rita, now live with their families.
The funeral will be on Tuesday next 23rd August in Rathfarnham at 10.00am. Full details are available on www.rip.ie
