Thanks to the ongoing support of Fingal County Council, Cricket Leinster has been able to deliver its in-school coaching visits once again in 2020.
Sadly, as we wait for the all-clear to restart, this article is a reminder of the schools such as St Brigid’s NS, for how much cricket is being lost for the passionate schoolchildren and their teachers in the Castleknock area.
St Brigid’s NS were the first winners in 2004 of The Leprechaun Cup, the Union's flagship hardball competition played annually during the Spring months and recent visits from Cricket Leinster have been with the four 5th & 6th classes.
Cricket Leinster was particularly pleased with the outcome of those visits with 6th class teacher Mrs Doyle adding 'the boys and girls benefited hugely from the coaching visits. Interest remains high and with Leinster/Fingal County Council providing us with new equipment, I am going to now run sessions on my own to further the skills learned during the initial 5-week programme. We hope in time, to set up an inter-class league at St Brigid's to be run during the final school term. All in all, exciting sporting times for the pupils within the school'.
This is an excellent showcase of the legacy Cricket Leinster gets from its school visits and are delighted to have also encouraged the close working relationship of Phoenix Cricket Club with the Dublin 15 schools including St Brigid’s.
