We are pleased to confirm that over 2,440 pupils in 19 schools have received cricket coaching sessions in the DLR catchment area this year.
This was delivered through 180 sessions in various schools, with children learning the basics of batting, bowling, catching and throwing through drills & game based activities.
In the latter part of 2022, we have focused on delivering sessions to DEIS schools, there are a total of 13 in the DLR area, by the end of the calendar year, we will have worked with 9 of these schools.
As part of our development strategy, we will also be providing cricket equipment to the schools involved and returning to at least 5 of the schools to instruct the teachers in basic games & coaching points.
Jim Stewart spoke about his development role with Cricket Leinster:
“I have been working at cricket development for the past eight years in various guises, and for the last five years as Cricket Leinster Development Officer for both DLR & Wicklow County Council areas.
I am proud of the contribution we play in encouraging participation and enjoyment of sport with school pupils from many different backgrounds, cultures and nationalities.
Most of the schools have subsequently adopted cricket as a core part of their school sports curriculum which ensures sustainability over the long term.”
We have exciting plans to further expand our work into 2023 and to provide additional teacher training in support of the overall development programme.
