Predictions at the lower level of the Open Comps league ladder are notoriously hard to make. A few extra members in a club can make a huge difference in the strength of the lower teams, conversely a few members leaving could have devastating consequences.
In recent years the biggest impact has been made by teams that are new to the league, and may not yet have found their level. To that end, the Division 14 champion of 2013 may well be coming from the trimvirate of Castleknock 3, Greystones 3 or Adamstown 3.
All three clubs have built up solid reputations over the last few years, with Greystones in particular growing rapidly. But nearly all the other teams also have reason to be optimistic.
Wicklow County have downsized in recent years, but their second team was playing at a much higher level until 2011. They still have enough good players to make an impact at this level.
Any teams from Merrion and Clontarf can never be discounted, and Balbriggan and Mullingar are also developing as clubs.
So after including all eight clubs as possibles, who are the probables? Maybe Castleknock 3 to win the league, with Clontarf 7 in the runners up spot.
