DOUBLE SUCCESS FOR IRELAND YOUTH TEAMS
There was double success for Ireland's youth teams today (FRI) as the U15s beat Scotland by 14 runs, while the U17s ran out convincing 36 run victors against Worcestershire.
Jamie Grassi's half century set up the Under 17 win as he and Sam Murphy (32) shared an opening stand of 91 in just 57 balls to propel Ireland to 173 for 9.
Grassi top scored with 55 from just 32 deliveries, striking 5 fours and two maximums in a typically hard-hit knock.
Harry Tector (25) kept the momentum going while there were breezy cameos from Max Neville (13), Josh Little (12) and Reece Kelly (11*).
Two wickets apiece for Morgan Topping (2-17), Reece Kelly (2-18) and Max Neville (2-37) meant the Irish were always on top, running out winners by 36 runs despite an entertaining half century from Westbury.
In Cork, Ireland Under 15s beat their Scottish counterparts by 14 runs to earn a share of the inaugural Celtic Cup.
Reece Malone (43) and Stuart Jackson (36) shared a 5th wicket stand of 76 as they posted 142 for 7 in their 20 overs.
Malone struck two huge sixes and 3 fours in his 32 ball stay, while Jackson found the boundary five times, also from 32 balls.
Gavin Hoey (3-27) made early inroads into the Scottish innings, while JJ Garth claimed 2 for 25.
Angus Guy (33) and Darryl Sinclair (24) threatened a fightback, but an athletic fielding display saw Ireland manage three run outs, to extinguish Scottish hopes - Ireland winning by 14 runs.
