Knockharley will once again host the Middle 2 Cup final in 2012. Last year their path to the final became blocked at the first opportunity, a loss to eventual runners-up Pembroke 4. This time round they will play hosts to Connacht side Ballaghaderreen in the first round.
Merrion 5, who won the league and cup double in 2011, will be facing fellow Division 7 side, Leinster 4 in the first round. Merrion must start the Middle 2 Cup as favourites. They are the defending champions as well as the highest placed side in the draw, which contains eight Division 7 sides, eight Division 8 sides, along with Ballaghaderreen.
The draw has managed to throw up nine ties, none of which could remotely be called derbies. Many teams will be making long trips, with Merrion 6 travelling to Wexford Wanderers 2, North Kildare 2 going up to Balbriggan 2, Halverstown 1 making the trip to Dundrum 2, and Pembroke 4 being hosted by Wicklow County 2
