Dublin City Council Culture Recreation & Amenity Department, Sport & Recreation section are pleased to announce a partnership with Cricket Leinster that will see the introduction of cricket visits and blitzes right across the Dublin City Council region.
The partnership between Dublin City Council and Cricket Leinster will see schools and youth camps across the Dublin City Council region receive visits from qualified cricket coaches. Ireland Women’s Internationals Claire Shillington and Laura Delany, former Ireland Men’s International Fintan McAllister and local coach Ciaran Divney will supply high quality introductory sessions to bring cricket to all in the region.
The scheme will build on the highly successful partnerships already established with both Fingal County Council and South Dublin County Council and demonstrates the growing popularity of the sport right across Dublin. ‘Kwik Cricket’ blitzes will be held in various parts of the city throughout the summer, the first of which was already held last week in Irishtown stadium with close to 100 local children partaking in a fun-filled day.
As part of the scheme, the Cricket Leinster coaches will team up with the Dublin City Council Sports and Recreation officers in the region to help support their programmes and assist with teacher/staff training courses. The first of these teacher training courses was held last week at Irishtown stadium. It is intended to utilise the sports centres across the city in Ballymun, Cabra, Coolock, Finglas, Irishtown and Kilbarrack to assist with the delivery of these courses and to give as many local teachers the chance to offer cricket to their pupils.
Sports & Recreation Services Manager at Dublin City Council, Emma Byrne commented at the announcement today, “Dublin City Council is delighted to be partnering with Cricket Leinster and their team to support the sport’s growth in Dublin City. We have seen first-hand the quality of the programmes that cricket delivers and this furthers our commitment to give sporting opportunities to all sections of the community in Dublin City.
Cricket Ireland Development Manager for Leinster, Brían O’Rourke is delighted to be joining up with Dublin City Council “The Cricket Leinster Development Programme continues to grow, so to be able to partner with Dublin City Council gives us the further support and opportunity we need to grow the game in all areas of the capital. I would like to thank Emma and all the staff at the council for their commitment to our sport and I am sure that this will be a long and very fruitful partnership for both parties.”
