On Sunday, September 30th, Sport Ireland ran their annual Family Sports Festival at the National Sports Centre in Abbotstown, Dublin 15. The multi-sports day saw over 20 different sports including volleyball, golf, football, basketball, tennis and many more sports including a cricket station where children and parents of all ages and abilities/disabilities could sample Table Cricket and a ‘Target Hitting’ batting station. On the day, there were over 3,500 people attending and trying out the different sports with cricket being a very popular sport on the day with loads of people interested in participating.
Reinhardt Strydom (Fingal Development Officer) led the cricket programme on the day with the assistance of Leinster coaches Rony Hoque, Rory Anders and Ian Anders running the Table Cricket and ‘Target Hitting’ area. The children had a fantastic time trying out cricket and we had quite a few queries about cricket in the local area where we are hoping to get more people involved at the local cricket clubs.
This event was part of the European Week of Sport and ‘Be Active’. A huge congratulations to Sport Ireland for organising this amazing day for the local community with great success.
Cricket Leinster would like to take this opportunity to thank Fingal County Council for their continued support of our Cricket Development Programmes.
