Fantasy league round up - Part II
The analysis of the figures provided by your result cards and the OCC continues apace. The first article in this series dealt with some statistics which do not garner points towards the overall fantasy league table, as well as the overall table which is currently headed by Jono Cook.
This series of articles will attempt to include as many players out there as possible. You may have to trawl through a lot of tables, but it is hoped that a large number of players will have been included by the time you get to the end of the end.
Today, this column will provide some more category leaders, mainly those which do count as fantasy points. Just as a reminder, here are the relevant points earning categories:
Each game played – 10 points.
Runs – 1 point each run
Wickets for bowlers – 20 points each wicket
Catches – 10 points per catch
Stumpings – 15 points per stumping
There are also bonus points available as follows:
Each score by a batsman between 50 and 99 – 10 point bonus in addition to points scored per run.
Each score greater than 100 – 20 point bonus in addition to the points earned per run
Each five wicket haul in an inning – 10 points bonus in addition to the points earned per wicket (i.e. a five wicket hauls is worth, in total, (5x20) + (bonus 10) = 110 points).
Each ten wicket haul in an innings – bonus of a lifetime’s satisfaction that you’ve achieved a very rare fact and will be smiling about it for many years to come, plus 20 fantasy point bonus (i.e. 10 wickets is worth (10x20) + 20 = 220 points).
Now onto each of these point scoring categories and the leaders in each. First up would normally be games played but that was covered in the previous column, so we progress with runs scored. Runs scored is a major category and one that many would like to lead.
Here is everyone who has scored more than 400 runs, which must be considered a successful season for anyone. Only one player has topped 1,000 runs this season, Nathan Johns [YMCA], although two others passed 900 runs and 124 players passed 400. This list of 124 batsmen represents the top 6% of all players and of the 2,147 to have appeared in a game, 2,093 had the chance at least once to score runs.
The top 10 is made up of just 4 clubs with Merrion and Clontarf providing three apiece, with YMCA and Phoenix splitting the other four places.

Catches is a category in which wicket-keepers have a huge advantage. Those great big gloves and the full protection armour, the lightening reflexes and the assistance of bowlers and even in some cases, batsmen. However Terenure’s Diarmaid Lynch is the top catcher who has not also got stumpings this season. He has taken 15 wickets bowling, so he is either a very safe pair of hands in the outfield or perhaps his keeping does not run to stumpings.
111 players have taken at least 10 catches and not every one can be a wicket-keeper, can they?

That’s the main point scoring categories covered and in the next column we shall cover stumpings, and the other categories, that is 50’s and centuries, and five wicket hauls. There have not been a ten wicket haul for some years that I have heard of. Perhaps someone would see when it was last accomplished.
