The Leinster Cricket Union in conjunction with Fingal County Council’s Sports Office along with the support of the Irish Sports Council’s 'Women in Sport' initiative ran a five-day 'Cricket for Life Roadshow' for girls in Fingal. The Roadshow visited local clubs in Fingal throughout June, catering for beginners and those with playing experience aged 7-13 yrs. The Roadshow emphasised participation through fun games and cricket activities.
The Roadshow took place on Monday in North County Cricket Club, Tuesday in Balbriggan Cricket Club, Wednesday in The Hills Cricket Club, Thursday in Rush Cricket Club and Friday in Malahide Cricket Club.
The week was a great success with over 60 girls attending the five days. The Roadshow also assisted 15 new girls into the game and have since joined their local clubs. It was great to see more girls taking up the game of cricket. Unfortunately the week was interrupted by rain and with the bad weather some of the days attendances we down in numbers.
A special thanks also to the development officers and coaches from the Fingal clubs for helping on the days - Albert van der Merwe, Carole McGuire, Max Sorenson and Lionel Jansen.
Due to the great support and interest shown in the Roadshow we will be running another one towards the end of the year. Details will appear on websites soon.
