The response to our search for the Cricket Leinster Photo of the Year has begun. Over the next thirty eight weeks, we will be cheering up your Tuesday's with the top photos submitted that week. All those photos will be divided up into monthly winners, with the title of Cricket Leinster Photo of the Year 2013 being presented at the annual dinner in the Autumn.
A little bit of artistic licence has been used in this first week. The more attentive of you will notice that there has not been too much cricket played in Leinster this week, and the three photos below do look a little summery for mid February.
So before there are any accusations of a fraudulent competition, these three have been included to het the creative juices of the province's photograohers flowing. None of the three were taken this year, (and in fact one was in 2011!), but they will get the ball rolling!
First up is this shot of five year old Cian Rooney of North County, walking off the pitch after his debut in Merrion CC last year. You get the feeling that this won't be the last time young Rooney is applauded off the pitch! Thanks to Geraldine Ronney for sending it in.
Entry number two is a study in concentration (or perhaps despair!) as John Hoey of Terenure is about to entered into the scorebook as st Cole b Singh in this match between Terenure and YMCA last June.
The final entry this week almost qualifies as a vintage photo, taken in June 2011. The match is an Irish Senior Cup tie between Railway Union and Eglinton of the North West, and shows Tim Townend diving to his right to send Richard Wylie back to the pavillion. Tom Fisher looks on. Thanks to Tim for sending it in!
Many thanks to those sending in photos. Keep them coming this week!
