Gaby Lewis will captain the Ireland Under-19 Girls in the prestigious Malvern Festival later this month.
The Irish will play three games on the short tour – taking on Wales, Buckinghamshire and Derbyshire.
"I’m naturally delighted to be asked to captain the side,” said Lewis, who has represented the senior Ireland team in 25 internationals despite being only 16 years old.
“A really good squad is emerging within the women’s game at this level as more and more press towards the senior squad. I'm really looking forward to what are going to be three great contests."
Ciara Metcalfe is the Head Coach of the team, and she is confident that her young charges will acquit themselves well in England.
"This is a fantastic group of athletes that have been selected for the tournament, and we're raring to go,” said Metcalfe. “We had a huge training block over the winter months, working on skills, fitness and strength. The girls took that information back to their clubs, and have continued to grow their game.
“Having watched most of the players selected during the Toyota Super 3 competition, I can see they are going from strength to strength. Game awareness is definitely one thing that stands out for me. Girls bowling longer spells under pressure, and spending longer in the middle has had a great impact on their games,” added Metcalfe.
“We've a big challenge ahead, and I'm looking forward to see how this group responds. Our squads at both Under 17 and Under 19 level are really coming on and it's exciting to see. Hopefully our results during the competition will reflect this."
