Exciting news for Gorey Cricket Club! We're thrilled to announce that the East Coast Sports Complex is finally happening, thanks to a fantastic boost of 4.9 million from the Large Scale Sporting Infrastructure Fund. Wexford County Council is matching this funding, bringing us close to 10 million euros for the project's first phase!
This investment in North Wexford's sports facilities will be a game-changer! The complex will feature a full-sized cricket pitch, a hockey pitch, a running track, and even cycling facilities – all right here in our bustling town of Gorey. Planning is already in place, and once the first phase is done, we'll be looking to secure more funding to complete the clubhouse.
Incredibly, this project has been in the works for nearly a decade! We've had countless discussions with local Councillors, our Co. Council Chief Executive, and Senator Malcolm Byrne, who all emphasized the need for a dedicated ground for our expanding clubs. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Dr Yvonne Byrne, Liz Hore, and Philip Knight for their superb coordination, as well as our club representatives AL FitzGerald, Vincent Murphy, and Alan Holman, who met with Minister of Sports Thomas Byrne twice. It's been a genuine team effort, and the results will benefit North Wexford for years!
As one of the original advocates for this exciting strategy, Gorey Cricket Club is incredibly grateful to our Provincial Body CL, especially CEO Philip Smith, for all their support.
We're excited about the magic this multi-complex will bring by embracing various sports and empowering athletes to shine in new ways. Gorey Cricket Club believes that cultural diversity makes us stronger and that strength will uplift our entire region- tenders invited for construction.
