We were delighted to receive feedback on our CL Development Programme from a large Primary School in the heart of County Wicklow. This feedback (outlined below) underpins the value of our cricket development programme at schools level across Wicklow and the strong, positive contribution of our local Development Officer (Jim Stewart).
Infants:
The cricket lessons were great for Junior Infants’ coordination. The children had loads of fun and really enjoyed the drills, games and being introduced to fielding and cricket.
2nd class:
The children in 2nd Class loved the cricket. They benefited from having to concentrate on their coordination of different parts of their body. They had to listen to instructions and follow the instructions in sequence. They would love more sessions.
3rd class:
We really enjoyed cricket lessons with Jim. The lessons engaged all students, particularly as many students had no previous experience of playing cricket.
Jim gave clear instructions and gave the students lots of opportunities to practice and use the skills that they were learning during the lessons. Cricket lessons were a very positive addition to our PE lessons.
4th class:
Every pupil in 4th class loved the experience and would and gladly play at any time as a result. Many pupils having tried cricket for the first time and enjoyed it were more willing to give other new P.E. activities a go.
They also enjoyed the social element of the classes and it was refreshing to see pupils playing with different groups after our sessions. I would love to think that it is something that we could avail of again in the future.
5th class:
The impact cricket has had is:
-it encouraged team effort.
-it helped improved motor skills, ball skills and agility levels.
-it increased awareness of the sport and the basic skills involved.
-it helped bring about realisation that cricket is a sport for all ages, male and female.
-it helped encourage people to become aware of and possibly join a local club.
-it definitely brought lots of enjoyment and fun.
-it helped improve the children's listening and processing skills eg. following orders.
-it helped improve children's fitness levels.
6th class:
6th class thoroughly enjoyed learning to play cricket with Jim. It was inclusive for all abilities and active. The students who don't always grasp sports easily found it accessible and grew in confidence. The whole class were motivated and excited every week to play cricket.
