Greetings from South Africa!
On the 13th of January Rory Anders, Cameron Shoebridge, David Delany and I were sent on our travels to sunny South Africa where we are to spend two months of our year attending Muir College and playing cricket.
The tour so far has been superb, cricket three or four days a week, attending four or five classes a day and matches on the weekend exploring the most beautiful parts of the Eastern Cape. So far we all have been to York which is located in George (on the Western Cape) a four hour journey, and Cameron and I have had the pleasure to play in Grahamstown, one of the nicest grounds both of us have ever played at. It is home to St Andrews College where former Leinster U13 and Malahide player Luke Birrell currently attends school.
When in school, we all attend the same classes, Maths and English which are compulsory and Geography, EGD (tech graph) and Computers. We really are enjoying the change in school set up and the opportunity to make new friends from a very nice school in Uitenhage.
Last weekend all four of us got the opportunity to play on the school 1st X1 (the first time ever all four Leinster boys have played together) and really appreciated the standard that is required. Rory scored 63 and took two wickets, Cameron opened the batting but got one of three very good balls bowled on the day scoring 3 and my role has been slightly different becoming the teams ‘specialist spinner’ a role I have never had in any team previously.
So all is well here. Hope to write back soon.
