On a rare stunning evening so far this summer, Greystones Cricket Club welcomed players new and old to Druid’s Glen for a fun evening of cricket yesterday. The ‘Give It A Blast’ event was a roaring success and coach Jim Stewart was delighted with how the night went.
“We had a really good turnout of our own players, which was great because they helped run the activities and met the women trying it out. It’s brilliant to have some new players coming down to give it a go and, hopefully, take it up for the summer,” Stewart said.
Women and girls Development Officer Isobel Joyce was on hand to help run some fun fielding games and the Big Hit competition. “I loved being a part of Greystones’ Open Evening,” said Joyce. “They put a lot of work into it and all of the current players were very welcoming, too. It can be really daunting coming down to a new club and trying out a new sport so I think putting on a specific evening for beginners is so important for every club to make cricket more friendly and attainable for potential new players.”
There were drinks and biscuits in the clubhouse after and the atmosphere was one of renewed energy for the remaining months of Greystones’ cricket season.
Greystones train on Mondays and new players are always welcome to go down and try it out, regardless of previous experience or ability. Visit their website at greystonescricket.clubbuzz.co.uk for more information.
