A brilliant day of Indoor Cricket in North County yesterday afternoon saw Greystones ultimately emerge victorious in the CL 2024 Winter Indoor Tournament.
Having jumped to the top of Group A last weekend, Greystones opened up the proceedings with a semi-final against Group B runners-up S&S Dublin.
Batting first, Greystones set S&S 89 for a place in the final, however an excellent bowling performance saw them restricting their opposition to just 52, meaning a 36 run victory and booked their place in the final.
The other semi-final saw Dundalk facing off against Indigo Spartans, and on this occasion it was the Group B table-toppers Dundalk who bowled first, and a strong effort restricted the Spartans to a net score of just 58.
The first seeds batted well, and having gotten themselves ahead in the run chase with two overs to go, ensured no more wickets fell and made their way to a net score of 66 to secure their slot in the final.
16:15 saw the final beginning with Greystones batting first, and with both sides repeating the dose of how they won their semi-finals, neither team could complain about how the coin fell.
Greystones batted nicely, making their way to a net score of 62 in spite of some spectacular close in catching by the Dundalk short cover and mid-wicket fielders.
Dundalk were in buoyant mood and made their way to 30 before losing a wicket, however when they did a spell of 6 wickets in two overs put them right on the back foot, and into a position from which they could never truly recover.
Greystones restricted them to a net score of just 17 thanks to some brilliant bowling and some extremely skilfully executed run-outs, seeing them run out 45 run victors and the Indoor Champions for 2024.
Congratulations to all involved with the team on a fine exhibition of skill over the course of the competition!
