Phoenix 4th XI defeated North County 3rd XI in a highly contested Middle Cup Final at Inch.
Earlier Phoenix had won the toss and decided to bat. Captain Aundeep laid a solid foundation with 41 before being run out brilliantly. Late order runs from James Sugrue saw Phoenix to 136, which was always going to be competitive. Pick of the bowling were Kashif Qazi and Keegan Lang, both with two wickets. Ben MCBride took 1 wicket to go with two sharp run outs.
In reply, North County started well, with Ben McBride (57 off 43 balls) receiving good support from Paras Goel and then Keegan Laing. The bowling was tight with Daniel Sugrue (3/30) a highlight.
Fifteen were needed off the last over, with added drama off the first ball of a no ball for a fielding restriction infringement. Keegan Laing tried valiantly but couldn't get elevation on the ball, or past the fielders to the boundary. Twos and singles left them needing the ever favourite 6 off the last ball to win. The ball was hit to the deep but not in the air, nevertheless the batters ran and then ran an over throw before eventually being run out looking for a third.
A tense finish to a highly competitive game, congratulations to Phoenix CC for their victory.
