Sadly the club recently said goodbye to a great friend and team mate, David Brown who passed away. David will be fondly remembered by all at Halverstown CC, and our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Diane, and 3 son’s Liam, Joe and James. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Hopefully happier times await, we’ll get to play some cricket, invite some old friends back to Brannockstown and get to celebrate our 135th Anniversary in style.
As the cricket season is delayed, Halverstown CC are taking to the digital world to replay their club’s cricket matches from back in the 1980’s. The club give thanks to Michael Sharp for providing all the scorecards for the 1984 season. Here is are some excerpts from their walk down memory lane:
“It's 1984 and Halverstown after 4 years of playing in both the Leinster Junior Cup (and winning in 1980 at the first try) and the Leinster Intermediate Cup in 81, 82 and 83 it was decided that we would enter the league for the first ever time. The Leinster Cricket Union decided to enter us into the Intermediate B Division. Over the next couple of weeks, we are going to tell the story of that season.”
“It's Saturday May 5th 1984. Halverstown open
up their first ever league season vs Merrion at home. Halverstown will line up
as follows - T Ronaldson, R Cole, B Miller, T Plewman, B Gray, H. Southern, G
Killan, K Boyd, R Ryall, D Gray and D Taylor. Merrion win the toss and Bat 1st.
Halverstown's bowling and fielding gives away very little and after their 45
overs, Merrion have finished on a score of 106-9. Derek Taylor bowls a
fantastic 5-26, with Harry Southern bowing 3-26. The other wicket was
taken by David Gray who finished with figures of 1-25.
Halverstown would require 107 from 45 to secure their first ever win in league
cricket. Tim Ronaldson and Roy Cole would open the innings for Halverstown and
put the Merrion bowling to the sword and chased down the total after 20.5
overs. Ronaldson finished 69no and Cole 39no.
Halverstown's final score was 110-0 from 20.5 Overs.”
