Cricket Leinster is delighted to confirm that Amy Hunter of Malahide Cricket Club has won the Crawford Cup for the leading batting average in Sprint Coatings Women’s Division 1 for 2020.
In a quite remarkable season, Hunter managed 269 runs at an average of 89.67, being dismissed only three times across her five innings. This helped her to see off the attention of Merrion’s opening pair, Irish internationals Rebecca Stokell and Leah Paul. Stokell scored 267 runs at an average of 53.4, whilst Paul accumulated 209 at 52.25. Both this pair and fellow Merrion player Rachel Delaney were recently awarded with sports scholarships in Trinity College Dublin, so it is no surprise to see them featuring strongly here.
Hunter, who has also recently been awarded a Cricket Ireland contract having only turned 15 last month, was in sublime form from the get-go this season. Her lowest score of the season came against eventual champions Leinster, and even then she had managed 31 on that day. Particular highlights would include her fantastic unbeaten 91 against The Hills, and a swashbuckling 69 against YMCA, which helped her side set a platform for a thrilling final over chase. She also made an unbeaten 41 against Clontarf when, along with fellow opener Caoimhe McCann, Malahide chased down 81 in just 7.3 overs.
Hunter and McCann were the third highest runs scoring partnership this season in Division 1, with 239 runs from four partnerships, Hunter also features in the second highest partnership as herself and Anna Kerrison managed 248 in three innings together. Perhaps it will come as no surprise to anyone to see that top of the tree on this particular stat is in fact the Merrion duo again of Stokell and Paul, who scored 379 runs as a pair in 5 innings.
Congratulations from all at Cricket Leinster to Amy Hunter on winning the Crawford Cup for 2020!
