The league tables continued to shuffle and take shape this afternoon in the Cricket Leinster IBI Corporate Finance Premier League and Championship, as there were wins for the top two in both leagues, whilst there was a first win of the season for Premier League bottom side Clontarf.
MERRION VS PEMBROKE
Starting in Anglesea Road, the home side batted first and thanks to contributions from Jack Carty (62) and Stephen Doheny (38) at the top of the order, followed by 49 from John Anderson at number 3, they ran up a total of 243 all out in the final over of their innings. Piyush Sharma was the most successful bowler for the away side, taking 5/37 from one ball short of his ten overs, whilst there were two apiece for Poonish Mehta and Gavin Hoey.
In reply Pembroke started slowly, before a 51 run stand between Danny Hogan (26) and Theo Lawson (27) saw them to 74/3, however at that point Amish Sidhu entered the fray and bowled a sensational spell of 6/15 from 7.1 overs, knocking the away side back to 99 all out, and a 144 run victory for Merrion.
MALAHIDE VS PHOENIX
In Malahide, there was a successful return to The Villagers colours for Shane Getkate, as his 67, supported by 44 from Ali Frost and 32 from Fintan McAllister, led Malahide to 215 all out in the penultimate over of their innings. Oliver Hald took 5/30 for the away side, with Will Bennett also took 3/45.
Phoenix stumbled to 46/4, before Tyrone Kane settled things slightly and provided solidity at one end, before he eventually fell for a well made 68, Matt Ford and Matthew Frost however both took three wickets, along with two wickets for James Newland, as Phoenix were restricted to just 170 all out in the 43rd over meaning a 45 run win for Malahide.
BALBRIGGAN VS YMCA
In Balbriggan, YMCA were the first to bat, and thanks to an early 40 from Mitchell Thompson, 20s for Tim Tector, Adam Rosslee and Jamie Forbes they batted around an excellent unbeaten 94 from Aaron Bailey to run up a decent score of 260/6 in their 50 overs. Andrew Darroch took 3/45 from his 10 overs to lead the Balbriggan attack.
Responding, Balbriggan saw openers Connor Fletcher and Ghanim Dara add 99 for the first wicket, before one run later losing Chris de Freitas for a golden duck, however Fletcher remained resolute, and accelerated again in company with Greg Ford, as the pair both passed their respective centuries, Fletcher finishing 114* with Ford on 101* from just 76 balls as they secured an 8 wicket win inside 40 overs.
CLONTARF VS THE HILLS
Finally in the Premier League, in Castle Avenue, the home side batted first and excellent knocks from skipper Eoghan Delany (78) at the top of the order, before PJ Moor’s 76 at number 4 and David Delany’s quickfire 49 at number 5, brought their side to 246/6 in 50 overs, Tómas Rooney-Murphy’s 2/51 the pick of the away side’s bowling efforts.
The Hills fell to 0/2 in reply, as both Delany and Mick Granger broke through early, 30s from Andrew Kavanagh, Dylan Blignaut and Mark Donegan steadied the ship, however that was until the intervention of David Vincent, the young off-spinner entering the attack and taking 5/37, to peg the away side back from 137/4 to 195 all out in the 48th over, as Clontarf secured a 51 run win.
LEINSTER VS CORK HARLEQUINS
In Rathmines, Leinster were indebted to an excellent century from Joey Carroll as he was unbeaten on 122 in their total of 245 all out in 49 overs as Seanan Jones took 5/50 in arresting the attempts of the rest of the Leinster batters to accelerate the scores.
In response, only Brandon Kruger’s unbeaten 47 put up any level of resistance for Harlequins, as three wickets for each of Bilal Azhar and Jack Barry saw them knocked back to 100 all out inside 33 overs, resulting in a 145 run victory for Leinster.
CORK COUNTY VS NORTH COUNTY
In The Mardyke, Cork County batted first and after a moderate start, 40 from Cormac Hassett alongside an unbeaten 55 from Abdul Ghaffar saw them to 183/9 in their 50 overs. Four wickets from visiting skipper Eddie Richardson the pick of the efforts in a good all-round bowling display for the away side.
The chase began nicely, however at 45/3 the game could’ve gone either way, thankfully from a North County point of view, they could rely on a partnership of 98 between Malcolm Nofal (76) and Eddie Richardson (63) as they managed to outlast a valiant bowling effort from the Leesiders to chase their target with four overs, and four wickets, to spare.
RAILWAY UNION VS RUSH
At Park Avenue, Railway Union batted first and made their way to 103/8 thanks to 35 from Mark Canniffe, before Hamza Maan’s 26 managed to see them up to a decent total of 160 all out in the second last over of their innings. Three wickets apiece for Daniel Coffey and Allan Eastwood were the pick of the effforts, whilst both Jarred Barnes and Alex Neary took two apiece.
Rush never fired in response, Llew Johnson’s 20 at the top, and Aaron McGuire’s 31 at number 7 being the only resistance, as three wickets for Liam McCarthy, along with a brace for each of Alan Joseph Mathew, Hamza Maan and Fakhar Zaman saw the away side all out for 92, securing a 68 run win for the home side.
TERENURE VS NORTH KILDARE
The home side batted first in Terenure, however 5/16 from Kaustab Pawar saw them collapse to just 91 all out inside 22 overs, 26 from Sid Nair and 21 from Raghav Grover the only men to put up resistance for the hosts in a poor batting effort. Abdul Sattar’s 2/28 the other bowler of note for North Kildare.
In response, North Kildare stumbled badly at the top of their innings as poor shots from each of Waqar Azmat, Yaseen Sherzad, Kaustab Pawar and Husnain Mahroof put them under pressure with the score 36/5, from there 26 from Murtaza Sidiqi and an unbeaten 33 from Abdul Sattar guided the away side to a 4 wicket win inside 21 overs, two wickets for each of Grover, Zubair Khan and Dylan Cleary were the bowlers of note for the home side.
