PREMIER LEAGUE – WINS FOR CLONTARF, MALAHIDE, YMCA, LEINSTER
Malahide vs Balbriggan
Balbriggan 260 all out in 48.3 overs (Greg Ford 100*, Ghanim Dara 40, Mike Frost 2-50, K Donnelly 1-18, J Newland 1-37, H Kindley 1-39, C Shoebridge 1-31, A Sheridan 1-34, A Frost 1-44)
Malahide 263-6 off 49.5 overs (Matt Ford 116, A Sheridan 31*, A Darroch 3-35, S Willemse 1-43, 2 run outs)
Malahide won by 4 wickets
This turned out to be a case of sibling rivalry, with a century from Greg Ford being topped by brother Matt in a winning innings for Malahide.
Balbriggan would have wished for slightly more than the 260 they got, with that Ford innings being the bulk of the runs and Ghanim Dara contributing 40. All the Malahide bowlers bowled well and they would have fancied their chances.
What followed was a tense affair as Malahide inched towards the total. Matt Ford batted brilliantly for 116 and when he was run out they still needed 20 runs with 4 overs left. Andrew Sheridan and Mike Frost (16*) guided them home to delighted scenes in The Village.
YMCA vs Merrion
YMCA 252/9 in 50 overs (Rory Anders 64, Adam Rosslee 62, Ashley Burton 62, Hugh Kennedy 4-41, Muhammed Sinan 2-34, Tom Stanton 1-49, Daniel Forkin 1-28)
Merrion 225 all out off 48.5 overs (Swapnil Modgill 86, Jack Carty 71, Mikey O’Reilly 2-50, Rueben Wilson 2-36, Tom Anders 5-37, Ashley Burton 1-27)
YMCA won by 27 runs
After losing both openers early YMCA rebuilt well through Anders and Rosslee. With Ashley Burton also contributing middle order runs the home team looked set for a big total. However Merrion’s bowling was determined and 4 wickets for Hugh Kennedy kept things in check. At the break both teams would have been happy with their efforts.
An opening stand of 173 might have given Merrion confidence but once YMCA broke that partnership things went all the home team’s way. Star of the show was Tom Anders with 5-37 and Merrion lost 9-52 and were all out for 225.
Leinster vs The Hills
Leinster 284/7 in 50 overs (Peter Francis 83, Saqib Bahadur 71, Michael Hogan 79, Cian Nulty 3-64, Saen Mcnicholl 2-54, Athar Farooqi 1-31)
The Hills 244 all out off 47.1 overs (Cormac McLoughlin-Gavin 90, Nathan Rooney 52, Peter Francis 1-38, Mark Tonge 2-23, Saqib Bahadur 4-39 incl a hatrick, Bilal Azhar 1-47)
Leinster won by 40 runs
Three half centuries from Leinster set the bedrock of a comfortable victory over The Hills. Francis, Bahadur and Hogan all scored freely and despite a solid bowling performance from Cian Nulty, Leinster would have been happy with their efforts.
In reply for The Hills Cormac McLoughlin-Gavin started excellently and good back up from Nathan Rooney gave The Hills a sniff. But that man Bahadur was back and his 4-39 including a hat trick extinguished all hope for the men from Skerries.
Clontarf vs Railway Union
Railway Union 144 all out off 40.3 overs (Riley Mudford 37, Hamza Maan 35, David Delany, 2-32, Fionn Hand 3-27, Michael Granger 2-39, Ruan Cronje 2-29)
Clontarf 149/4 off 22.2 overs (Robert Forrest 63, John McNally 41, Fakhar Zaman 2-9, Hamza Maan 1-42, Zaman Safi 1-34)
Clontarf win by 6 wickets
Despite the early loss of talisman Kenny Carroll, Railway had settled well with Riley Mudford continuing his good form. However a relentless spell of high quality bowling from Clontarf saw wickets fall on a regular basis, with the visitors eventually all out for 144.
Robert Forrest set about chasing the total all by himself and when he eventually was out LBW for 62 off 55 ball the back was broken on the chase. A solid 41 from John McNally brought the result beyond doubt.
CHAMPIONSHIP – WINS FOR CORK COUNTY, PHOENIX, PEMBROKE, TERENURE
Terenure v Civil Service
Terenure 370-7 off 50 overs (Raghav Grover 130, Donal Lynch 107, Mubasher Siddique 3-52. Naveed Khan 1-75, Rajath Parashurama 1-43, Binson Thambi 1-67, Dhiraj Shetty 1-60)
Civil Service 300 all out off 47.3 overs (Arjun Chandrasekar 88*, Nilesh Joshi 41, Seamus Lynch 4-44, Kripesh Shetty 2-59, Darshit Shetty 2-46, Donal Vaughan 1-27)
Terenure won by 70 runs
A run fest in Terenure saw the home side take the win, thanks to two centuries in a partnership of 227. At 85-4 Terenure must have been feeling nervous, but Grover and Donal Lynch batted together brilliantly, both above a run a ball and took the game away from Civil Service. Mubasher Siddique took 3-52 and was the pick of the bowlers.
In reply Service knew they would have to score quickly and consistently to win. Their top order all got settled but it wasn’t until Chandrasekar at number 7 that they got on top of the bowling. That was all too late as the run rate climbed and a last wicket partnership of 74 just got them to 300.
Cork County v Rush
Cork County 171 all out in 44.3 (Syed Mohammed Aiman 56, Alex Neary 3-14, Brandon Morris 3-33, Nathan Mcguire 2-31, Cian Egerton 2-41)
Rush 165 all out off 43.3 overs (Nathan Mcguire 35, Cian Egerton 28, Jack Mcgee 24, Byron McDonough 2-58, Stefano Di Bartolomeo 3-39, Nabeel Anjum 3-12, Abubakar Saddique 1-18, Diarmuid Carey 1-12)
Cork County won by 6 runs
Runs were hard to come by in The Mardyke and the visitors would have been happy at the end of the first innings with their efforts. Those efforts were lead by Alex Neary and Brandon Morris, with 3 wickets each. Nathan Mcguire and Cian Egerton took 2. Syed Mohammed Aiman was the lone defender for Cork County, with 56.
As usual Nathan Mcguire gave the Rush team a fast start (35 off 26 balls) but sustained pressure from the home team meant that Rush couldn’t get a partnership together. The middle order got started but couldn’t stay around and there was a great effort from Aaron Mcguire and Alex Neary to get them over the line. The home team had the last laugh though, with Rush all out 6 runs short.
North County v Phoenix
Phoenix 231 all out in 41 overs (O Hald 104, Adam Chester 63, Eddie Richardson 3-22, Abdul Ghaffar 3-43, Sean Sludds 3-39, Ashish Jain 1-56)
North County 114 all out in 32.3 overs (Ashish Jain 30, Luke Whelan 23, Amhish Sidhu 4-19, Oliver Hald 1-34, Tyrone Kane 1-23, Theo Dempsey 2-26, Anish Rana 1-0, Jed Wiggins 1-6)
Phoenix won by 117 runs
An extraordinary spell of early bowling from Richardson and Ghaffar ripped through the Phoenix top order, to leave them 15-6 in the seventh over. A remarkable comeback from Adam Chester and then spectacularly from Oliver Hald (104 off 56 balls, 12 fours and 6 sixes) left Phoenix with the very defendable 231.
And defend it they did! An incredible spell of 4-19 from Amish Sidhu coupled with wickets for Hald, Kane, Dempsey, Rana and Wiggins meant that North County were unable to put the partnerships together they needed.
An extraordinary match and a great result for the men from the Park.
Pembroke v North Kildare
Pembroke 368-6 in 50 overs (Nicholas Stapleton 119, Diarmuid Tucker 65, William Todd 46, Gavin Hoey 41*, Husnain Maroof 2-78, Mohammad Zaman 2-75, Bakhtyar Nabi 1-42, Akhilesh Sharma 1-80)
North Kildare 165/10 off 36.2 overs (Husnain Maroof 59, Nick Stapleton 4-28, Fiachra Tucker 3-8, Gavin Hoey 1-24, Piyush Sharma 1-37, Paul Lawson 1-32)
Pembroke won by 203 runs
An all round masterclass from Nick Stapleton helped Pembroke to a convincing victory over North Kildare in Sydney Parade. The home team batted first and scored runs through the order, Stapleton’s 119 the highlight, but also featuring 65 from Diarmuid Tucker, 46 from William Todd and a rapid 41 off 15 balls from Gavin Hoey.
Stapleton was the man again with the ball, taking 4-28 in 10 overs. There were wickets too for Fiachra Tucker, Paul Lawson, Piyush Sharma and Gavin Hoey. Husnain Maroof was the only highlight with the bat for North Kildare as they were all out for 165 and defeated by 203 runs.
