A highly successful ICC 'Introduction to coaching' course was run at the Poppintree Sports Centre in Ballymun recently with 27 coaches attending.
The course was run following several meetings held with Dublin City Council who have incorporated cricket onto many of their junior participation events currently being delivered around the city.
The course itself concentrated on basic techniques along with small-sided games that can be easily delivered within schools or sports halls. A separate classroom session concentrated on the rules of the game and the coaches also got the chance to watch some footage of Ireland's famous victory over England at Bangalore last year.
Eileen Gleeson, a sports development officer with Dublin City Council thoroughly enjoyed the day’s activities commenting:
‘The Cricket Coaching course which took place in Poppintree Sports Centre on Feb 22nd was an informative, fun filled, activity based day which gave potential coaches an insight into relevant games / skills appropriate to beginners cricket. The course was hugely beneficial to the participants and serves as a means of introducing cricket into the local community. The tutors delivered the course with enthusiasm and demonstrated with skill. Overall the day was a great success.’
