The competition for individual honours
There are several individual trophies at stake across the OC Divisions. As we get closer to the end of the season players are closing in on the various qualifying thresholds - some have already passed them. The tables below set out the current position.
There are trophies for OC Divisions 1 - 3 for batting, bowling, wicket-keeping, all -rounders and fielding. The standard threshold for all three divisions in terms of batting is 500 runs [League / Cup but not T20]. In the bowling it is 25 wickets. For the all-rounder it is a minimum of 250 runs / 12 wickets or dismissals by a wicket keeper. Points are awarded 1 per run and 20 per wicket / dismissal. Nothing for out-field catches. The player must also participate [in the relevant discipline for batting, bowling or wicket keeping] in at least 8 matches.
To be eligible for any trophies in RCD1/D2 the person must be ICC qualified to play for Ireland. In D3 the only restriction relates to overseas players [as defined in LCU Playing Regulations].
There is currently only one player who has already passed the run threshold for the Marchant Cup - Simi Singh from YMCA. But with three or four matches to play there are a number of other players who could qualify by the end of the season. In D2 John Anderson has shot past the threshold and his target now must be to get 1000 runs in a season - he needs 32. The qualifying threshold for D3 looks a long way off at this point.
Five bowlers in RCD1 have 20 or more wickets and three have already qualified. It still looks reasonably tight between Eddie Richardson [North County] and John Mooney [Clontarf]. But of course someone with a lower average could overtake them once they achieve the required 25 wickets. In RCD2 Tom Stanton is way out in front in terms of wickets and average. There are a number of players on 19/18 wickets but whether any can get the required number of wickets with a better bowling average remains to be seen. No one has qualified with enough wickets yet in D3.
There are plenty of all-rounders in the frame, but it looks likely to be from the top three who have already amassed over 850 points. No one is going to catch John Anderson in RCD2 with nearly double the number of points from the next best. And David O’Halloran is the only person to have qualified [or be close to qualifying] in OCD3.
It is good to see that there are a number of younger players sprinkled throughout the lists and nowhere is this more evident than in the wicket keeper categories. Jamie Grassi, Sam Murphy, Mark Donegan, Andrew Vincent and JJ Cassidy all figure.
