After a successful first year of the Hundred Blast League (HBL) last summer, Cricket Leinster are delighted to announce that it will return in February and March 2020. The indoor league will be held at the National Sports Campus in Blanchardstown on their full size covered pitch.
It promises to be a unique and exciting competition, with female players between the ages of 17 and 21, competing in 100 ball matches. It will be the first time any cricket team will have used the new state-of-the-art facility at the National Sports Campus. The covered 3G synthetic pitch was constructed on a dual-fibre surface, with long synthetic grass with a high-density shockpad, offering a better grip and a smoother playing surface. The pitches are FIFA & World Rugby certified and GAA performance approved.
The format will replicate the summer version as close as possible. The three teams will play each other twice over the three match days. The league will take place on Feb 23rd, March 8th and March 22nd from 12pm - 3pm.
The HBL is an important part of our Girl's Development Programme. It provides all players between 17 and 21 a chance to play cricket in a fun and inclusive environment, where participation and competition work side by side. It will also be a great way to get 2020 started and support the 20x20 initiative. The following 12 months promises to be a big year for Women's sport across the country and we hope to play our part in growing the game.
