At a wet and windy Adamstown, DLR 3 and Pembroke 4 failed to settle the destination of the Intermediate Cup. Both captains agreed to play a 25 over match and it proved to be too long in the prevailing weather conditions.
Pembroke won the toss and batted. Their innings was frequently interrupted by squally rainshowers and when tea was taken shortly before 4 o’clock they had reached 101 for 4 off 14 overs with significant contributions from Ahmed Zibran ShoVon (30), Brendan Ferres (25 ) and Rohan Bajaj (26). But after the interval, they found the going tougher adding only 58 for 5 in the remaining overs to reach a total of 159 for 9. Piyush Sharma (33) batted well and Naveen George (4-27) and Santosh Kumar Kavumkottu (2-29) were the pick of the bowlers.
DLR’s response was constantly in line with the target and they’d reached 115 for 5 off 18.2 overs needing just 45 off 40 deliveries to win when the rain returned and washed out any chance of a finish to the match. Shallendra Mishra (17), Sandeep Shahdeo (18), Nikhil Katare (22) and Tony David Kunan (28) all contributed.
Now the match is in the hands of the OCC who will decide on whether to continue the existing match or restart – and the venue and date for this.
Thanks again to Adamstown CC for hosting, hugely appreciated by all involved.
